
The Conference Venue
Official events of the 12th World AIDS
Conference will be held at the Palexpo Conference Centre, Exhibition Halls and Arena.
Palexpo is conveniently located only 10 minutes walking distance from the airport railway
station and is also serviced by bus No 5 from central Geneva.
Registration, the Welcoming Reception, Opening and Closing
Ceremonies, plenaries, scientific and community sessions, and commercial, poster and NGO
exhibitions will all take place under one roof Palexpo.
On Site Services
Abstracts-On-Site
This search system will give you an opportunity to look through the programme and search
by day and time, subject, author and affiliation. You can make your own programme and
itinerary and print it out.
Banking
Currency exchange and automated tellers will be available to Conference
participants at Palexpo.
Business Centre
The business centre will provide computer, e-mail, fax, photocopier and telephone
services for participants on a pay-per-use basis.
Child Care Centre
The organisers plan to provide free child care. Please indicate your requirement
on the Registration Form, as early registration is essential.
First Aid Stations
First aid stations will be located in Hall 7 and in the Conference Centre. This
emergency medical facility will be available to all Conference participants.
Hotel and Tour Desk
A hotel and tour desk will be conveniently situated within the registration area
in the lobby of the Conference Centre.
Information Desks
Information desks in Halls 4 and 7 will provide multilingual services for your
inquiries about all aspects of the Conference.
Information System
The specially-designed information system will provide access to the Conference
Programme, schedules, abstracts, and points of interest. Access to the World Wide Web and
e-mail (internet) will also be made available. Technical staff will be on hand to assist
participants.
Lounge for People Living with HIV/AIDS
A comfort lounge will provide facilities for rest and relaxation, food service,
bottled water, refreshments, information exchange, and will serve as a gathering place for
people living with HIV/AIDS. Facilities will be available for those who require
intravenous medications.
Meals and Snacks
Many luncheon and fast-food outlets are located within the facilities. These food
outlets, open all day, offer a wide range of options from inexpensive snacks to leisurely
dining. On the Registration Form you have an opportunity to pre-order bag-lunches for the
Conference days in order to give you the utmost flexibility for your lunch breaks.
Medical Care
Arrangements have been made with the Geneva Cantonal Hospital to provide all
registered participants with medical care for urgent conditions during the Conference.
Medical facilities and staff will be located on-site at Palexpo and any situation
requiring additional facilities will be handled at the Cantonal Hospital located in the
Message Centre
A state-of-the-art message system will help you communicate with other
participants at the Conference. Together with the information system, the message system
will form the "Electronic Talking Tree", a group of venues located throughout
the Conference site, designed to improve communications for all participants.
Media Centre
Located in Hall 7 of Palexpo, the media centre will serve the needs of
journalists covering the Conference. Services provided to registered journalists will
include computer work stations, printers, telephones and modem connections. Rooms will
also be available for interviews and third party press conferences.
On-Site Publications
In addition to the Conference Workbook (final programme and conclusions of
presented abstracts), and the Conference Record (full abstracts), participants will
receive a free, daily newspaper summarising the events of the preceding day.
Service for People with Disabilities
Please note on the Registration and Accommodation Forms all special requirements,
so as to allow us to best serve you. The Conference site is wheelchair accessible.
Smoking Policy
Smoking in the Conference venue is not permitted, except in designated areas.
Simultaneous Interpretation
English is the official language of the Conference. However, simultaneous
interpretation into French and Spanish will be available for the opening and closing
ceremonies and the plenary sessions.
Speaker Service Centres
Speakers and Chairs must report to the Speaker Service Centres one day prior to
their session to deposit slides. The Speaker Service Centres will be located in Hall 7 and
Hall 4.
Swissair Desk
Swissair, the exclusive official airline of the Conference, will have a desk open
during the Conference at Palexpo for your travel needs. |
